As of the 31 January 2022, Nuclear Waste Services has been set up to combine all of the NDA Waste activities, giving greater flexibility and driving improvements and synergies across the NDA Group. This brings together LLW Repository Limited, Radioactive Waste Management Limited and the NDA Integrated Waste Management Programme (each with their own IT teams, infrastructure, and systems).
Role Description
The LLWR Graduate Scheme is a two-year training programme which will help build the foundations for a future potential career within the organisation.
The programme includes:

The graduate could progress along a technical / scientific route to become a Radiological Safety Assessor. Other options might include Engineering, Environmental Safety Case, Waste Consignment or Environmental Monitoring
Duties
The graduate will be part of a strong technical team of about 10 staff and contractors that manages the Nuclear Safety Case for LLWR. This includes providing support and advice to operations, engineering, and to various projects. Many of the projects are very significant in terms of their scale and the advice offered can sometimes be quite complex and highly numeric. Structured technical training will be provided. Day to day the role will involve supporting the Deputy Team Manager which may involve:
- Attending team daily, weekly and monthly meetings including safety committee meetings
- Attending and taking part in HAZard and OPerability (HAZOP) meetings
- Producing personal memos and Operational Safety Memos to provide formal advice as required. Often these are highly numeric
- Advising Operations, Waste Consignment and Engineering teams
- Undertaking audit and assurance activities, for example, carrying out on-plant reviews
- Writing change management documents
- Assisting in taking technical notes for safety committees and other meetings
- Helping team members get the most out of IT
- Undertaking technical training
- Taking part in high performing team sessions and working on improvement activities
- The position requires high professional standards, particularly in team working, and the candidate should be confident to engage with others in order to present their work and provide constructive safety challenge when required.
Essential Skills/Qualifications
2:1 in a relevant scientific or engineering subject. Working towards being Chartered
